Candy in a Bottle

Know how people say that it is precisely the things you can't have that you crave more than anything in the world? Making matters worse is the fact that it seems so attainable yet totally out of reach. To illustrate, I shall draw from the candy in a bottle analogy.

In the middle of a glass bottle lies a piece of Halloween Candy. Not just any candy, but your favourite kind at that. In my case, it would not be candy but a bar of chocolate. That would really do me in. And if it was a kitkat bar, that would totally turn this into an obsession.

So then you first begin walking by the glass bottle in circles, watching and assessing out of curiosity. Then you walk away convincing yourself that candy is indeed bad for you. Thing is, you don't forget about the blasted bottle. Rest assured that you will think and think about the friggin piece of candy until you find yourself unsure of the situation. Is it really the candy you want or are you just incapable of ignoring the challenge that was in your face right from the beginning.

Depending on the type of person you are, one may return to the bottle and think up ways to extract the candy from the bottle. Some people, namely me, would try turning the bottle in every which way possible. Perhaps shake the entire bottle until frustration kicks in. Then leave it alone for a bit trying to convince myself that I don't really want/need candy. This works for a little while, then you'd go back to try once again but of course to no avail.

At the height of frustration, people do one of two things. Walk away or stick through the bitter end. Perhaps if the reward, candy in this case, was deemed worthy or if there was a certain guarantee of sinful pleasure...one may opt for the latter. In the absence of both, one would just be foolish to further try coaxing the candy out of it's secure glass bottle.

Perhaps the candy would only be alluring for as long as there was a glass bottle around it anyways. No, this is bitterness talking now ;)
