Things are going pretty well...umm...as well as they can be anyways. It being PMS time and all. Sorry guys. If you think you're tired of hearing about my PMS issue, try living with it!!
Been doing a whole lot of nothing much, except trying to figure out school.
If all goes well, yours truly will be back in school once again at the beginning of January. No, this isn't for the graduate program. It appears that I do not have all the pre-reqs yet. The whole of next year will be dedicated to getting those done.
Today I spoke to the advisor at the college I'm applying for. She has some bad news for me. From what she knows, there seem to be a correlation between age and being accepted into the grad program at UBC. Apparently, it is rare for them to admit people in their 20s. Not unheard of, but rare.
In this field, experience is everything.
While filling out all 6 pages of the application form for the college, there were some tough questions that needed to be addressed.
These are some of the tougher ones.
1) Name
2) What life experiences have you had that might interfere with future training?
- I have never been sexually abused, seriously suicidal, an alcoholic, a drug addict nor lived in extreme poverty. In other words, I have no direct experience in all of what clients may want to talk about. My entire life has been smooth sailing and this might just me my downfall.
3) How would you describe your role in the family you grew up in?
- See having already done an undergrad in Psyc, I KNOW there is more to this question than meets the eye. But what exactly are they trying to get?
4) Have you found that people tend to come to you to talk about their situation or problems? If so, what is it about you that explains this?
- Yes, because I easily become sucked into their negative outlook on life. We would then spend the entire day bitching about life in general. Hmm, at this point I should perhaps stop filling out the application form?
After all, driving an already depressed person to suicide does not constitute a successful career.
5) Will you have an adequate support system for your personal struggles, feelings, needs or issues that may occur during your studies?
Gawd, I might as well get used to saying the phrase - and how does that make YOU feel?
Can't very well say that 10 times/day and burst out laughing 9 of it.
Seriously though, this is all very exciting. Can't believe I'm actually looking forward to going back to school!
