Work Saga: Part 2 - A Lesson in Humility

Day 2 at work went well. Until I found out that my co-worker is 18, turning 19. What a slap in the face that was. Oh well, all part of life's lessons. Pride is not often a good thing anyways.

Second day of working at my store and already I've learned something important. Other people are insecure too, we're all just doing the best that we can.

Being in the fashion industry (lol!!) I was expecting all the customers to be young, hip and oh so trendy. You know the type. The 18-25 year old bimbos.

It was a pleasant surprise to find out that I was a lil quick to jump the gun. We get ALL kinds of people. People who care and people who don't. People who walk through the door with confidence and an air of glamour around them, as well as people who are quiet, shy...almost apologetic. My work is to make them all feel good.

It is explicitly stated in our training manual that shopping is all about emotions.

Therefore my job is to make them feel good. About themselves, about their purchase, about life. What better way to do that than to genuinely care about the customers? To listen to them, to talk and joke around? Another opportunity to brush up on social skills...something mum forgot to teach me while I was still a wee one.
