Romancin' Rome

Was watching this movie called 'Only You' on tv yesterday. It was the first really soppy movie I've watched in ages. Must say that it wasn't half bad. Lotsa scenes from Europe. It got me thinking about the whole idea of people going to places like Paris to fall in love. Is it really the place and atmosphere that matters? Although the idea of falling in love with a tv-type hunky french guy sounds pretty appealing, what are the real odds of that happening. The movie surrounds the life of this lady who is a hopeless romantic. She believes in soul mates and the such. In these movies, it always seem to pay off if you would only have faith in love and romance. How dreamy is that?!

Embedded somewhere in the movie were lines like " I know he will kill tigers for you" and "In America you live for money, here in Rome we live for good food, pleasure and...love." This reminded me of an all time favourite song by Peter Cetera. The Power of Love I think it was called? Hmm...don't quite remember. Anyways a line from there was " I'll be the knight who will fight for your honour, I'll be the hero you've been waiting for."

As much as I'd like to think of myself as a woman of substance who has a level head on her shoulders, there is always that thing at the back of my head saying "what if." Is this a weakness found in all women? Are we all romantics at heart who simply cannot resist the idea of true love?

Speaking with my bother the other day, he said it was essential for him to give his wife a proper wedding reception someday. His reason was that a proper wedding has always been a dream of hers (thus every female alive). What struck me though were not his words but rather the way he said it. It was as if he couldn't care less about a nice wedding and that it was only for his wife's sake. So really...do all girls dream about their wedding day? How perfect it would be...etc?

In all honesty (Murni...don't laugh!), I must say that I have thought about stuff like that at different stages of growing up. Beginning to think that it is part of being a woman/girl...and perhaps there is nothing wrong with that.

Please let my brother not read this, for he will be insufferable after that. Not to mention that he will be laughing for the next 5 years. This coming from someone who has always believed in equal rights and that women can do anything men can :p

An uncle brought up an interesting analogy the other day which says that women are comparable to bamboo. They may not have the physical strength and might of men, but what they do have is persistance. Women may be 'softer' than men but by no means easy to break.
