After spending the entire day at the MAS travel fair a few weeks ago, dad was dissatisfied with the idea of leaving without having booked anything. So at the very last minute they decided on Cambodia. This goes to show that men really do not get the point of window shopping. Anyways... as I was nodding my head to the idea, was also thingking - Why Cambodia of all places?
It turned out to be a pretty good trip, according to them. So the pics are courtesy of my parents.
Angkor Vat was magnificent. Dad was actually thinking it is one of the 7 wonders of the world but I think we found out that it isn't. He was kinda disappointed at that. haha...perhaps he has it in his mind to visit all the 7 wonders. I don't know, dad. Really?
Things I learned about Cambodia.
- there are not many paved roads
- very poor country
- people there do business in US dollars
- many people there speak English (at the tourisy places I imagine)
- they drive on the right side of the road but have both left and right hand drive cars
- gained independence from the French in 1953, only to be taken over by the Khmer Rouge who killed about 3
million people
- torture methods include mutilation of parts, pulling out of finger nails, throwing kids up in the air while shooting them with spear guns (in front of the parents!)...among other ways...pretty nasty stuff, huh?
Apparently an artist escaped the torture place and revealed all. There are photos and graphics of the torture stories in there. Would be interesting to visit. Oh...and there are lotsa skulls in there too. Nasty, nasty stuff.
Yet more proof that man will eventually ruin itself.
