Eco Footprints: Laundry vs. Pantyliners

Was walking down the aisle of a huge multi-national corporation owned department store (who hires children to work in China, apparently) and I was thinking about how much harm we do to the environment.

While mass production of goods has its charms, we really should stop and think. Just because it's cheap doesn't mean we have to buy it. Okay, okay, I shop at Wal-Mart. Yes, I know. My brother has stopped going there completely and I will try to as well. They are the true enemy of the free world.

So on the weekends, you should see this place! The last time I was there, they ran out of shopping trolleys and baskets. Now that shopping has replaced many of our traditional past-times, there was almost a festive feeling in there. People were everywhere, happy that they came to a place where they can actually afford two of everything. Finally, a break from the capitalist world. An 'almost' free lunch.

This must be how pantyliners came into fashion. If you think about it, they couldn't have been invented very long ago. These days they even have liners for thongs. If we would only do laundry more often there is no need for liners, is there? And people who have gotten used to wearing them everyday, imagine if you would stay off it for a month, two of those packs on the shelves would not be there. They are only there for as long as you buy them. All the synthetic plastic and whatever the hell else goes into them.
