# of assignments due tomorrow afternoon: 1
Came home from school today feeling really tired. Absolutely drained. Perhaps it was the assignment. Sat in front of the computer for 4 hours yet I could not even get half done. It's not a really tough assignment. No more than 3 pages. It was clearly a case of not wanting to do it.
The topic for today's lesson was - Love, Peace and Rock & Roll
The 1960s was definitely something to see. Given a choice, I would have wanted to be born in that era. All the hippie clothes, smoking pot and free love...why not? Transending all that though, is the idea that world peace was a possibility. Protests, rallies, song-singing, candle-burning...they were such a passionate generation. They were not afraid to let their voices be heard. University students were a huge force in changing government policies.
In comparison, my university years did not even come close.
I remember participating in ONE march a couple of years ago for womens rights. It was interesting but people were looking at us weird. Some people looked at us in contempt as we blocked off the roads at certain points. It felt a bit uncomfortable. Perhaps too that we did not have THAT huge a group. Every off and on, there will be protests breaking out in this city. Two years ago, the busses stopped running as the transit union went on strike. People had to walk to school.
The biggest one that I have seen here was one last year. Or was it the year before. It seemed that everyone in the healthcare community and everyone at the university went on strike. A couple of classes got cancelled because they formed a picket line. The profs could not come to work without incurring a fine. It was quite exciting. Come to think of it, that was not so much different from protests years and years ago during the industrial revolution. As always, it involves the working class. Marx lives on.
