The Holiday

Until last weekend the only chick flick that actually made a difference for me was "The Little Black Book" with what's her name in it.

Not anymore. This one is profound too.

The role that Kate Winslet took on was the more meaningful of the two. She played a girl still in love with a man who cheated on her! Yep, reality of the situation is...it's real.

It was the one scene at the beginning and one scene at the end that got to me.

At the end, said jerk-ball flew thousands of miles to come see her. Knocking on her door at mignight professing love and whatnot. Saying how much he needed her. She, of course, falls for it. Thinking that maybe, just maybe this time it will be different. People change, miracles happen. Who knows, right?

Bugger of it all was that I also fell for it. Thought, "yeah I guess this will be another blasted happy ending - how predictable. " But no, that was not to happen.

After talking for a bit she asked if he was still engaged to the woman he was...well, engaged to. And he said yes!!! Ughh. Men. How is it that he could love her and yet, not want to be with her? Is love really that insignificant?

Maybe it is. There is a lot more to a relationship than love itself. A chinese proverb of sorts says so. You can't pay your bills with love. Umm, unless you're a working girl of that sort but I don't think love is generally accepted as hard currency.

What does love mean? Can you be in love with somebody and be in love with somebody else at the same time? What's love got to do with it? Lots but I guess what I'm saying is that it's not everything.

So yeah...that was a bit of a new realisation for me believe it or not. I've always been a dreamer and love the idea of love conquering all. Prince charming, soul mates, the perfect one etc. The whole package.

Not true. There are lots of people out there. A world full of it as a matter or fact. And if one person doesn't feel for you then, move on.
