Don't you just love learning randon pieces of information about yourself that a close friend (or one that is just mad at you at the time) decides to share? The session would typically begin with phrases such as, 'you know, the thing about you is...' or ' but you always...' or ' sometimes you...' or ' I'm sorry to tell you this but...' and of course I'm talking about the negative. When people pay us a compliment, we brush it off. When people say something bad in the name of constructive criticism, we hang on to it with dear life. Stupid but true. Of late, I've begun to realize that I do a lot of stupid things. On a regular basis, yes.
So the latest one I got involves argument style.
When cornered, I supposedly block out everything that is not what I want to hear. I then convince myself that I did not understand the situation thus, placing blame on someone else. If only I had know this last year, it would have saved me a lot of misery. Remember with the dumper, I kept saying I did not understand what was going on. Hmm...perhaps I don't still. It was a rather ambiguous situation.
For Sex and the City fans, remember the episode where after listening to Miranda describe a date, Berger (guy) concludes that her date was simply not that into her. And Miranda, after having a revelation decides to spread the word? The scene where 2 young girls were bitching about why the guy didn't call and making up excuses for him had hit a bit too close for comfort.
